Choosing colours for school washroom facilities
School toilets had often been associated with dull and drab colour schemes for several years, however recently designers have started to explore a lot more with vibrant colour schemes and have moved away from stereotypical blues and pinks for male and female facilities.
Something which our Head of Design at Rearo has taken note of when picking our own high pressure laminates - focusing particularly on gender neutrality and neuro divergence within our new nursery toilet cubicle range.
We always aim to pick complementary décors which can be easily combined and used throughout washroom areas, whilst also being DDA compliant.
But just which colour scheme should you be opting for within your school premises?
Deciding on the best cubicle for your toilet facilities
Within the Rearo commercial offering, we stock a core range of laminates for each of our ranges, ensuring we can guarantee quality and lead times on all of our products.
Therefore your choices will be limited to these off-the-shelf laminates. However in some instances we can accommodate bespoke options.
Across our RapidFit toilet cubicles and nursery school toilets, we have 17 décors in total to choose from. RapidFit specialises in woodgrain finishes, as well as neutral pantone shades and warming brown options.
Meanwhile our half height Nursery range focuses on soft pastels, light oak finishes and an accent vibrant yellow shade.

Selkie Board wall lining system
Also available to our domestic clients, our Selkie Board wall panels are best suited to residential properties or areas where water resistance is key.
Supplied with complementary trims and bespoke colour matched silicone sealant, they form a completely waterproof system, which can be installed within shower areas, wet rooms and bathrooms.
Also, due to it's thermal performance, these panels are also recommended for swimming pool wall applications,
When sealed correctly, they can withstand high humidity and water transfer, with no affect on the performance of your panel surface or core.
Choose from either an MR MDF or Plywood core, or alternatively ask our team about our new polymer based Nuova wall panels.
Which age group will be using your toilet facilities?
Once you've chosen your preferred cubicle style, it is then down to which age range will be using the facilities to dictate your preferred colour scheme.
Our Head of Design advises that plain colour combinations are better suited to younger students, whereas woodgrains can be introduced to senior level students for a more sophisticated design element - this also applies to staff toilets.
Some of our favourite combinations include our Be Rooted & Sangha Wenge laminates, as well as our Water Blue and Royal White options.
Choosing wall panels to suit your school washrooms
To complete the look, we always recommend using one of our wall lining systems to clad the surrounding walls within school toilets. Not only do they provide an aesthetic purpose but each offer boasts anti-bacterial properties, creating a hygienic environment for pupils.
Consider the colour wheel when picking a complementary décor - opposing colours are typically contrasting, whilst those sitting side by side are harmonious. For example blues and greens always look great alongside each other, so long as the intensity of each colour is matched.
Meanwhile black and white options are always great options as they will match any décor - due to the fact they are listed as a tone and shade, rather than a colour.
And another way to add a little dimension to the room is by choosing a textured or patterned surface and creating a feature wall.
In the image above we have combined our Selkie Abstract and Sage wall panels with our RapidFit Lagoon and Royal White cubicle laminates.
